El Dia de los muertos

On day of the dead we watched a video. The video showed what people did, such as cooking food, decoratin graves and just all being together. One day we made sugar skulls, people in Mexico made the same things except theirs could move and stuff. I think the video was really cool, it showed us how to cook certain stuff. I think it would be amazing to celebrate day of the dead and actually participate in it. I didn't like that they only celebrated it for two days. In our culture when someone dies we just have a funeral for them. During day of the dead they celebrate two days, we don't ever just like decorate graves as much as they do. When a family member dies that actual year, somebody in that family has to let people come to their house to pay their respects. The people make an altar the altar has flowers and pictures on it. The people dress up and Day of the dead is on November 1st and 2nd. The altar can also have candels, guitars or whatever else the people liked when they were alive. We also had cutout little skeletons and colored them. I liked that we made sugar skulls, and making the skeletons. During day of the dead I think people have parades. Day of the dead is celebrated in Mexico, Ecuador, and in our Spanish I class. I think I would start making sugar skulls every November 1st and 2nd now. I like how people just went to that person's house and took food and payed their respects. The first day was for children and the second day was for the adults.

In the United States, people are required to go to school until they are 16. Do you think this is a good policy? I think this is a good policy. My reasons why are responsibility, education and jobs. I also picked this essay because, I think 16 is an age people can make their own decisions at.
The reason why I picked responsibility is; not most sixteen year olds aren't responsible enough. If somebody goes to school because they want to learn stuff they should. If people want to be lazy at 16 and drop out they could. But I don't think teenagers always dropout because of laziness. Sometimes teenagers have to be responsible and take care of their own families.
I also picked education. I think most sixteen year olds would have enough education by then. When your sixteen you should know your basic stuff. Most kids think they know everything, which they don't. But I think teenagers should go to school til they graduate. This would make it easier on the students. All teenagers should at least have a high school diploma or a GED.
My final reason was jobs. Most jobs now require a high school diploma. So it would be hard for a dropout to get a job. If somebody dropped out and couldn't get a job, they would end up living off of their parents' money. Most people would get kicked out of their homes, if they dropped out. Besides most teenagers get tired of living off their parents' money.
So being able to drop out is a good policy; sometimes. Some people don't think it is a good policy. It is good because, if someone don't want to they don't have to go. Also in case someone had to dropout and support their children or something they could. But most of the time teenagers just drop out to be lazy.

Nicaragua Education !

I learned yesterday that Nicaragua schools are extremelly poor. The moms of Nicaragua make the lunches for the kids at the schools. I also learned that the kids in public school have to wear uniforms, and walk to school. If the kids don't have a pencil or paper, they can't go to school. The teachers don't get paid, and if a kid wants to have a copy of a test they have to pay money. The kids have to take chairs to school or sit on the floor if they are late. Also most classes have 20-60 kids in each class. Also I learned that parents can only afford to send maybe two kids to school. The Nicaraguan people only made about $200 dollars a year!
